About the "Blog"
Every now and then, I play a game of sorts, something in my head that I call “Guess What the Kids Are Saying These Days,” where I update my friends on all the latest slang from my darling little 14-18 year old students.
Recently, a friend told me I should write about it. Share all these juicy little nuggets with anyone past the age of 24 who might wish to hold a conversation with a high school student in between his or her snaps. Snappings. Snapchats. Whatever.
I happened to run the idea by my students the other day, and they were totally into it. One girl helpfully pointed out that it would help me “stop sounding so old.”
Thank you, Concerned Teenager.
Now, like a million other people, I’m writing stuff and putting it online. And, despite the contradicting link in the menu bar, I’m going to mostly avoid the word “blog”…that sounds too stressful and demanding and I’m basically only hanging on to social media by a thread anyway as is and I’m already hyper-critical of my writing (#englishmajorproblems) and blah blah blah.
Hopefully without being too pretentious (see above hashtag), I’m just going to write about stuff my students say, since I like to write anyway, and put that stuff on here sometimes, and it will all have been suggested by my awesome and hilarious students, with all the situations/conversations having actually taken place.
So grab your favorite selfie stick, a fresh box of tissues, and let’s venture down the rabbit hole together, of Things I Learned from My High School Students.
